Website Design

If you have an existing website which needs updating, or if are considering your first online presence, then you should start by considering the target audience who will visit your website.  Your online presence will often be the first impression potential clients have of you, and is one of the most effective ways you can communicate who you are and what you do.

Website visitors appreciate interactive content which provides the information they require as and when they request it.  Make it obvious the means with which visitors can contact you to take their enquiry further.  If appropriate functionality can be added to allow the visitor to complete a transaction online immediately, with the details notified to you.

Choosing who develops your internet presence is about finding a partner who understands your priorities, and ensures the completed product represents your organisation as accurately as possible. It is true that only the client knows their needs best, but a good designer will communicate fully to ensure they know and incorporate as much of the clients knowledge as possible.

One of the most obvious internet design rules is to make sure your website can be used by as many visitors as possible. Although common sense, this is frequently overlooked by web designer demonstrating the latest gimmicks instead of concentrating on the needs of the client and their target audience.

A good website is obvious to navigate and will load quickly even over a modem and phone line.  Properly written HTML appears identically on popular web browsers (as well as Internet Explorer your audience could have Opera, Netscape or Mozilla).  Fancy components that require download of software should always be avoided, not least because they usually prevent search engines form listing your website, losing this free source of advertising.

Once your site is published that is often the end of the relationship, but it shouldn’t be.  Every website will need updating. Unfortunately many website designers use this as an opportunity to make extortionate charges, and hence many website owners allow their site to become neglected and out-of-date.  Ideally you should find a website host who includes updates within their fee.
